Company History
Alpine was established in 1973 by founder Doug Wagner. He started producing liquid fertilizer in a shed in his backyard. Friends and neighbors in Ontario tried it. They were happy with the results and the word spread from there. Since then, it has been onwards and upwards.
By 1975 product was being shipped to Michigan and in 1976 shipments began to Ohio. In succeeding years, large volumes of product were shipped to the American market. In order for Alpine to meet the requirements in the American market, a new manufacturing facility was built in 1983 in Corydon, Indiana.
In 1986, in order to keep up with the demand in the Canadian marketplace, a new office and warehouse was built in New Hamburg, Ontario, along with a new computerized mixing system.
Through the years, an extensive research program has been carried out to ensure that the best products and programs are made available to our customers. Over time, Alpine has established itself as the leader in the liquid fertilizer business in both Ontario and Quebec.
In 1996, Doug Wagner, the founder of Alpine, retired from the company to pursue other interests and sold the company to KRG Capital of Denver, Colorado, a capital investment company. In 1998, Alpine merged with their biggest U.S. competitor - Na-Churs Liquid Plant Food. Na-Churs Alpine Solutions is now clearly the largest manufacturer of “hot mix liquid fertilizers” in North America. Na-Churs Alpine Solutions have manufacturing plants in New Hamburg, Ontario; Marion, Ohio; Corydon, Indiana and Red Oak, Iowa. Western Canada is now one of Alpine’s target growth markets. We feel our products and programs are very applicable to the Prairie provinces.
The newly merged company is now owned by TRI (Trans Resource International). TRI is a privately owned group of companies, based in New York City, with sales of about 500 million dollars. TRI is a diverse company focused mainly on manufacturing companies in the agricultural marketplace. Alpine Plant Foods and Plant Products of Brampton are the two Canadian companies owned by TRI. Nachurs-Alpine Solutions is our up-line company in the US and Haifa Chemicals is a TRI company in Israel, involved in the manufacture of Potassium Nitrate and Phosphoric Acid. TRI has other holdings in Europe that round out their business portfolio.
Together, these companies are positioned very well to serve the agricultural marketplace around the world. TRI has over 500 rail cars in service for our use to move product to our customers. Alpine is fortunate to be part of such a large and experienced operation and is positioned as the lowest cost producer of quality products. Future growth in the Canadian Agricultural marketplace is enhanced by this position.
